Program Highlights

This course is a natural progression from “Orthodontic Treatment Mechanics and the
Pre-adjusted Appliance,” in that the principles of inter-arch treatment described are carried over and applied to the management of cases requiring attention in this area. It is the efficient management these factors that allows the orthodontist to focus on the challenging aspects of inter-arch management.
Inter-arch considerations include the far more difficult challenge of placing the upper and lower dentitions in three planes of space within the facial complex so that they are esthetic, fit properly during static centric occlusion, function from this static position without interferences during lateral and protrusive movements, and allow the condyles to be seated into a centric relation position within the glenoid fossae.
Thus, inter-arch considerations include such factors as growth and development, and management of vertical, horizontal and lateral skeletal and dental patterns. Part I of this subject focuses on the treatment of Class II malocclusions.
Additionally, the new Avex appliance systems and information on exciting new adhesives used during both direct and indirect bonding will be discussed in some detail. The arch wire system presently used will also be demonstrated.

  • General review of the vertical, horizontal, and transverse aspects of Class II treatment
  • Non-extraction and extraction options of treatment, with numerous case examples
  • Molar distalizing techniques and functional appliance use, with indications and contra-indications for each
  • Growth modification—the dental and skeletal components involved
  • Dental compensation and its limitations
  • Early treatment—advantages and disadvantages
• Selected cases from the other six courses will also be presented intermittently throughout the program.
